INVESTIGATE BEFORE YOU VACCINATE:

making an informed decision about vaccination in New Zealand

This small but comprehensive volume, the first of a new series, appears to satisfy the quest for a thoroughly researched substantial exposition of vaccination in New Zealand .  It is meticulously documented, compares the history of vaccination with the progress of infectious diseases, debates vaccine efficacy against vaccine safety, looks into vaccine technology and briefly discusses the big business behind the vaccine industry.

With several hundred scientific references, a useful if limited reading list, a good selection of websites and a discussion of vaccine alternatives, the book makes a sound contribution to informed decision making.  Particular topics include vaccine contamination, live vaccines, the contents of a number of specific New Zealand vaccines, the effect of vaccines on the immune system and reaction reporting.

It is a pleasure to find a book that uses relevant statistics honestly instead of ignorantly or deceptively and in which the conclusion on whether to vaccinate is left to the subsumed intelligence of thoughtful readers.

The author makes deliberate efforts not to generate fear or contention over vaccination issues and offers advice to those who choose, as well those who choose not, to vaccinate.

A very detailed but readable book.  Available from the publisher, the IAS (Immunisation Awareness Society Inc.), PO Box 56-048 Dominion Road , Auckland
